Firing the minds of tomorrow’s managers
June 18 2008

Over 100 students from St David’s High School in Saltney can now call themselves “young managers” following the 5th annual Young Managers Course organised by Broughton Shopping Park.

The latest batch of Year 9 students has just completed 3 intensive days at the Park’s training centre, learning new skills and building up their self confidence. The young managers were given projects on traffic, marketing, health and safety and cleanliness. The course aims to encourage team building, problem solving and communications.

Karl Rigby, Broughton Shopping Park’s operations manager, who delivered the course, commented: “It is very satisfying to see the young managers’ faces light up as they recognise that following some training and practice, they could manage a shop or a shopping park.”

Ann Bailey, Year 9 Head at the school, explains: “This is one of the highlights of the school year as it helps the students to experience a work environment, and develop the skills that they will need to show when they apply for jobs or plan their careers.”

This report was written by David Whittaker (aged 15) who attended the course in 2007 and is now preparing a feature for St David’s High School Magazine.
