Lucky 13 for Broughton

For the thirteenth year in a row, Broughton Shopping Park has gained the prestigious Safer Parking Scheme from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) for the safety and standards of facilities on its 2000 space car park. It remains the only car park in Flintshire to hold this important award.

A delighted Colin Gilligan, who received the Award on September 1 from PC Hazel Goss MBE, Community Safety Officer for Flintshire, was quick to praise his security team as well as the millions of visitors who observe the highest standards of driving when they travel onto the Park.

“A staggering 51 million vehicles have come onto the Park since we opened in May 1999, and we have only had to deal with one car theft,” said Mr Gilligan, Manager of Broughton Shopping Park.

“And you can count the number of reported thefts from cars on the fingers of two hands,” he added.“

“All the work we do in this area clearly pays off. We work closely with the police and our own security advisors, constantly update our procedures and regularly undergo staff training to make sure that we keep on our toes.”

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), launched the Secured Car Parks scheme in 1992 as part of their Secured by Design initiative to encourage those responsible for car parks to improve security standards as a means of reducing criminal activity, the fear of crime and the perception of crime in all car parks and vehicle retention areas.
