Football’s coming home for Saltney’s Michelle

Everton Ladies FC star Michelle Evans had plenty to celebrate as she returned to Flintshire from her team’s triumphs in last week’s Tescos Football League Cup.

The 20-year old from Saltney paraded the trophy to all her local fans, friends and family at a special ceremony in the Tesco store at Broughton Shopping Park. Alongside her was be dad, Wes, and her coach at Everton, Mo Marley (shown in photograph, left).

Michelle and her team mates defied all the odds as they defeated the previously all-conquering Arsenal Ladies in last Thursday’s final in London. The talented mid-fielder, whom locals might remember playing for St David’s High first team and for Mold Alex Tigers (check this) is looking ahead to the next challenge.

She already has a national Under 23 cap, and hopes to get a crack at the senior side in the near future. First, though, she has some more pressing issues to resolve, as Karl Rigby, operations manager of Broughton Shopping Park and manager of Llandudno Junction Ladies Football Club, explains:

“Ladies football receives very little financial support despite its growing popularity, and promising players like Michelle often have to pay their own expenses or rely on family and sponsorship.” Anyone locally who would like to look at sponsoring Michelle should contact:  info@broughton-park.com
