Hawarden squadron choose Broughton for marathon charity parade

One of the region’s most active Air Training Corps will be putting on a 24- hour show later this month as part of a fund raising marathon. Cadets from 2247 Hawarden Squadron will be on parade at Broughton Shopping Park from 4.30 in the afternoon on Friday November 16, and throughout the following day.

Over this action packed night and day, the squad, all of who will be in fancy dress, hope to raise thousands of pounds for both Children in Need, which takes place on the Friday evening, and for an environmental project in Iceland. The cadets will be kept on their toes and awake by the Squadron Band as they go methodically through their static and foot drills, time and time again.

Mrs. Julie Hart, CI of the Squadron, comments: “Although it will be a grueling effort, the cadets are really looking forward to providing a real spectacle, and we hope that shoppers will respond by giving generously to these good causes.”

The 60 strong Squadron provides local youths with valuable skills from aeronautics and map reading to outdoor pursuits such as flying, kayaking and wall climbing. 6 cadets completed their Duke of Edinburgh award Gold Badge this year with a 90km hike across Snowdonia carrying all their own equipment.

“We are very grateful to Broughton Shopping Park for supporting this important fund raising event,” said Mrs. Hart.
